A Soldier’s Child offers multiple Mini-camps and Mentorship programs that provide our kids the chance to explore new things while connecting with peers and adults who have walked similar journeys. Our programs are fun, educational, and healing.
A Soldiers Child offers the following activities:
White Tail Deer Hunt and Fishing
This mini-camp weekend is all about teaching our ASC youth the importance of wildlife conservation, hunting and fishing skills, and relationship building.
ASC teamed up with Operation Song in September and had our very first Songwriting Camp. Bob Regan, Don Goodman, JT Cooper, Laurel Taylor, Jamie Floyd, Kristi Osmunson and Tim James took the time out of their busy schedules to mentor our ASC children and wrote healing songs about their life experiences. After the songs were completed the 6 teams performed their songs. This camp was so successful that we are planning on hosting two songwriting camps in 2018.
Hunt/Fish/Golf Adventure Weekend
In October ASC held their White Tail Deer Hunt, Fish and Boyd Fulton Golf Adventure. Our ASC children also had the pleasure of going to Strategic Edge Gun Range and enjoyed an afternoon of competitions and learning about different weapons. During the Hunt/Fish, 14 deer and 30 plus fish were harvested. The kids had a blast!
Percy Priest Striper Fishing Day
On June 13, 2017 local ASC children went on a day trip to Piercy Priest lake for (striper) fishing. Thank you to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Fish For Stripes Group and Elm Hill Marina Restaurant for giving our kids a fun filled day that they will not forget.
ASC PS23 mentors enjoyed a special Quail Hunt with dogs, sponsored by JT Farms, Don Purdy, and Music City Quail Forever Chapter on October 27, 2017. On January 20, 2018 10 ASC children enjoyed a Quail Hunt at JT Farms.
ASC teamed up with Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) for our first ever STEAM Camp (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). The ASC children enjoyed testing color chemistry and building water rockets.
ASC teamed up with Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and held a Dance Camp. The ASC kids teamed up and created a dance program from their experiences. This camp taught our ASC youth about the importance of relationship building and how to express themselves through the art of dance.
Hunter Safety Course
During this course, the participants are able to get firsthand experience on how to be a safe hunter through guided instruction by a skilled Mentor. It is a weekend full of fun, shooting practice, study times with mentors, bonfires, s’mores, fellowship, and games.
